Overview

What is promotional SMS?

Promotional SMS is a marketing text message sent to many customers at once. It can announce a sale, share a discount code, invite people to an event or remind them to buy again. In India it is one of the three SMS categories, alongside transactional and OTP, and it has the strictest rules because it is not triggered by something the customer did.

Short answer: Promotional SMS is a marketing text sent to people who have not blocked marketing messages. It is sent between 9 am and 9 pm, from a registered sender ID, using templates approved under DLT.

How it differs from transactional SMS

A transactional SMS confirms something a customer just did, such as an order, and can reach people on the Do Not Disturb register. A promotional SMS markets something, so it respects DND choices. Marketing text cannot be placed inside a transactional template.

Customers who gave consent

Customers who have given explicit consent that is recorded under DLT can receive promotional messages even if their number is on the DND register. We help you collect and register that consent properly.
